Workshops & Events

Chemická centra

Chemická centra are regional hubs for chemistry teachers. They offer regular informal meetings where teachers can share experiences, exchange ideas, and find inspiration and support for teaching. The centers are open to both certified and non-certified chemistry teachers and emphasize interdisciplinary cooperation and burnout prevention . Meetings are currently held in 16 cities (starting by September 2025, it is going to be 19) across the Czech Republic and participation is free.

Letní škola učitelů chemie

Letní škola (Summer School) is an accredited educational program organized by UCT Prague for secondary school teachers and their students. Participants are introduced to new trends and discoveries in chemistry through lectures and laboratory work that is not usually covered in high school curricula. The event develops inspiration and cooperation between teachers and university experts and motivates students to pursue chemistry. Each participant receives a certificate of completion.

Chemistry Olympiad

The Chemistry Olympiad is a well-established competition for elementary and secondary school students, focused on developing their chemistry knowledge and skills. The contest is divided into categories based on school and age of competitors and includes both theoretical and practical tasks. It also offers preparatory seminars and support materials. Successful participants may be invited to further specialized events and training camps, including the option of competing in the International Chemistry Olympiad for the most successful participants

Běstvina

Běstvina is a summer science camp for young chemists and biologists, held at the Běstvina camp facility. It is mainly intended for high school students and features a mix of scientific and recreational activities, including lab exercises, lectures, and excursions. The main goal is to boost interest in science and connect students with peers who share similar interests.

Běstvinka

Běstvinka is a summer camp for the youngest chemistry and biology enthusiasts (especially those in the lower categories of the Chemistry and Biology Olympiads). Participants are selected based on their performance in regional rounds of these competitions. The camp includes both practical and theoretical sessions focused on developing the talents of elementary school students.

Podzimní škola učitelů chemie

Podzimní škola (Autumn School) is a program for chemistry teachers, organized by UCT Prague. Since 2015, this project features themed lectures, workshops, and opportunities for teachers to share experiences. The event is very popular but has limited capacity and is held only once a year. It is part of a broader initiative called "Učitelé učí učitele”.

ChemQuest

ChemQuest is a competition for elementary and secondary school pupils, where teams design and carry out engaging chemistry experiments on a given topic. The experiments must be feasible in a classroom or school lab, and participants create a video of their project. The competition also includes workshops where students can practice laboratory techniques and prepare for further rounds.

Laboratory Exercises for Secondary Schools

UCT Prague offers specialized laboratory sessions for secondary school students in the university’s modern labs. These sessions give students practical experience with various chemical methods and experiments, helping them better understand theoretical concepts and prepare for further studies in chemistry. These lab exercises are often part of broader outreach programs for schools.
